Overview

The Portuguese Algarve speaks for itself.  A long-time destination for the English public and full of stunning beaches and world class golf courses.  Portugal has excellent transport connections with the UK and a very strong rental market, with over 8 million tourists visiting Portugal every year.

Investor Statistics

With excellent infrastructure and capital appreciation at around 15% per annum and a strong, year round rental market, its no wonder that Portugal is regularly rated as an excellent investment location for the overseas property buyer.  Most buildings are of a good standard and carry a five year guarantee on the construction.  Rental yields are between 6-10% per annum.

Taxation

Alexander Richards would always recommend that you consult a tax specialist regarding your personal circumstances.  Capital gains tax is set at 25%.  Income is taxed at 15% and property is exempt of inheritance tax if passed to a direct descendent or spouse.   Portugal has dual-taxation agreements in place with many EU countries.

Financing

Mortgages are available and typical rates are 4.25%.  You can borrow up to 80% of the value of the property on up to 30 years mortgage.   Always consult a financial advisor for advice.
