 Overview

The Dominican Republic is an excellent lifestyle choice and has around 9 million inhabitants.  It has a strong English community already and the cost of living is very low. The climate is excellent, varying between 20-33 degrees Celsius between winter and summer.  The island has stunning beaches as well as coral reefs and many luxurious hotel resorts.  A number of golf courses are currently under construction and fishing is also a popular sport.

Investor Statistics

Capital growth in the Dominican Republic is strong, registering at around 25%.  New building projects tend to come with a 2 year building guarantee and there are strict regulations regarding planning and development density.  Rental yields average 8-10%.

Taxation

Alexander Richards would always recommend that you consult a tax specialist regarding your personal circumstances.  Capital gains tax is set at 30%, however 1% is deducted per year of ownership, as well as the official inflation rate which is deducted.  Rental income is taxed at 10% if the property is personally owned. 

Financing

US Dollar mortgages are available and typical rates are 9%.  You can borrow up to 80% of the value of the property on up to 20 years mortgage.   Always consult a financial advisor for advice.
